Bug Description
the template class provides view-related utilities like "ok()"; they should be available from Smarty to be sure the controller is not polluted with html;

Is this not what the PHP view class is for? Also I dont think these methods are really HTML polluters, it really just tells the system to call html, just like the controller tells the view to be called. I would not want to modify smarty for something like this, I honestly see nothing wrong with it atm.
