SMS recieve sound is not loud enough, even when on full volume

The current sound when an SMS is recieved is not loud enough, even when the volume of the phone is set to full (tested on Galaxy Nexus), and it is easy to not hear the sound, and therefore miss the message.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Eventaully the user will be able to choose the sound for a text and allow them to choose one that is louder. Possibly we can choose a louder/longer default sound for now?

I think the only way is indeed to pick another sound or edit the current one to make it louder. I think it doesn't have much to do with the volume itself as the incoming call ringtone is pretty easy to hear.

So, its just a matter of replacing the current message tone, or adding a new one. So I think the question is where to get a free tone that's loud enough for SMS notifications.

Agreed. I suspect the design team have input on how it should sound. Can
someone provide guidance from the design team?
