Turns out, innobackupex implicitly stores its PID into predefined location: <tmpdir>/xtrabackup_pid. So using mktemp to create a unique pid file name is totally pointless and breaks PID checking functionality. Reverted to using ${TMPDIR}/xtrabackup_pid.
