Innobackupex-1.5.1 Can't locate xtrabackup_51

When executing innobackupex-1.5.1 /data/backups. I get the error:

Can't exec "xtrabackup_51": No such file or directory at /usr/local/bin/innobackupex-1.5.1 line 1972.
innobackupex-1.5.1: fatal error: no 'mysqld' group in MySQL options
innobackupex-1.5.1: fatal error: OR no 'datadir' option in group 'mysqld' in MySQL options

I have tried to use -ibbackup=/path/to/xtrabackup - but this did not work.

I am running this in the folder where the my.cnf file is located (/etc). We are using MySql 5.0

If I add --defaults-file=/etc/my.cnf

The error then changes to:

sh: xtrabackup_51: command not found
innobackupex-1.5.1: fatal error: no 'mysqld' group in MySQL options
innobackupex-1.5.1: fatal error: OR no 'datadir' option in group 'mysqld' in MySQL options

What version of xtrabackup?

I suspect this has been fixed in either 1.6, or the upcoming 1.6.2 release.

What OS you are running?
on Linux systems XtraBackup script and binaries are installed to /usr/bin directory. Is it in your $PATH?
Can you locate xtrabackup_51 binary on your filesystem?

I am using Linux ... the xtrabackup files, including xtrabackup_51 are in /usr/local/bin

If I move these files to just /usr/bin/ you think this will fix the issue?

xtrabackup_51 should be in $PATH.

and you may try option
--ibbackup=/usr/local/bin/xtrabackup_51

you mentioned that using --ibbackup=/usr/local/bin/xtrabackup_51 did not work for you. Did it fail with the same symptoms, or in a different way?
