Bug Description

when xtrabackup is execute as root user file ownership is not preserved. so files were restored as user root. database does not start afterwards.

this leads to confusion.

xtrabackup should somehow memorize user ownership for restore.

feature request.

This is true. As per doc,

"As files’ attributes will be preserved, in most cases you will need to change the files’ ownership to mysql before starting the database server, as they will be owned by the user who created the backup"
http://www.percona.com/doc/percona-xtrabackup/2.2/innobackupex/restoring_a_backup_ibk.html

So if we are taking backup with root, we need to change ownership after restore.

status: New → Confirmed
summary: - xtrabackup does not memorize user ownership
+ [Feature Request] xtrabackup does not memorize user ownership
