Bug Description

When merging multiple incremental backups to a base backup, the --redo-only option should be used when preparing the base full backup and when merging all incrementals except the last one. However, our documentation is not clear about that.

Likewise for the --apply-log-only option in xtrabackup.

Actually it should be safe to use --redo-only for full backup.
In this case mysqld will perform rollback phase.

So should we just say that all incremental backups should be applied with --reado-only, even if technically it my be omitted on the last step?

Vadim Tkachenko (vadim-tk) wrote :

We should describe both options in the documentation.
It will be user decision what kind of schema to use.
