pt-table-sync sometimes fails with a message similar to this one

Failed to prepare TableSyncChunk plugin: Cannot chunk table `Webpages`.`parsed_values` using the character column domain, most likely because all values start with the same character. This table must be synced separately by specifying a list of --algorithms without the Chunk algorithm at pt-table-sync line 4053. while doing Webpages.parsed_values on super-feather

Why is pt-table-sync unable to chunk the table since pt-table-checksum did not report any chunk issues?
