minimum disk space is too large, even for Minimum Insatallation

Bug Description
The advertised minimum disk space for peppermint is anywhere between 3.2GB to 4.5GB.
In practice, version Peppermint-
What I did:
1) disabled check for minimum disk size, by editing .../ubiquity/
2) selected "Minimum Insatallation"
then
Ubi-partman crashed. I resumed anyway.
the installer failed later on partitioning, as if the partitioning is predefined for arbitrary minimum size or something.
BTW: I (re)tried the process, and got stuck on "network time server". Not sure what's going on there...
1) What's the minimum disk size required for "Minimum Installation" ?
2) was is tested or just assumed?
3) can it be really 3gb?
I experienced the above bug with a disk size of 4.5GB, inside virtualbox.
I say it's a bug , because Peppermint's website claim the minimum is 3.8 GB (or 4GB accoring to external sources).
