Bug Description

Hey guys, it seems that I've discovered a problem on my system. P4 seems to be pegging my processor at 50%+ even under minimal actual load (ie, with only the desktop running, and normal background processes.)

I followed a suggestion/thought from someone on G+ and killed all Chrom[e|ium] processes, with no change.

Even if I go through and kill all Chrome related processes, it still chews up my system. So, I still have to wonder if there's a bug in lxpanel, or lxsession. If I don't have those running (example, at the login screen), the system runs as expected, but as soon as those start, it pegs at 50%+ or higher, even with nothing unnecessary running. I do not like having my system constantly pegged like that, as it's an HP as well, and tends to already run hot.

Ok, here's an update. I installed XFCE (4.10.x), and am now running within it with no issues. Even if I let chrome run all night, I have no problems. So, there's definitely a bug somewhere in LXDE on my system.

HP Pavilion DV7 3160US, 4 Gig RAM, 512G HD, Dual Core AMD Turion X2 @ 2.5GHz, AMD/ATI 4530 (I forget the full details on this one).

This is more or less copied, with a few updates, from my messages on G+ to you guys. Let me know if more info is needed through that channel :)

By the way, still well done. Other than the above bug, P4 is running nicely :)

This is most likely caused by keeping a /home partition from a previous installation.

The high CPU load seems to be caused when xbindkeys is started by the system, yet there is no .xbindkeysrc file in the users home directory.

Copying the .xbindkeysrc file from /etc/skel should fix the issue.

run:
cp -v /etc/skel/.xbindkeysrc ~/.xbindkeysrc

Then if necessary, log off/on again

Additional info -

See this topic on the forum:
http://peppermintos.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5805

it's also born out by the fact that Xfce works OK, as the Peppermint autostart file (/etc/xdg/lxsession/Peppermint/autostart) wouldn't be being parsed .. so xbindkeys wouldn't be autostarted in Xfce.

I've had the same problem - reinstalling of power manager, linux-image etc. Fix #2 and instalation of xfce session does not help. Formating partitions helps, but DO NOT REMOVE INSTALATION MEDIA- until the first actualiation. IF YOU PUT OUT PENDRIVE -CPU USAGE WILL JUMP >50%, THEN TRY PUT BACK PENDRIVE INTO USB- CPU USAGE WILL FALL TO 3-4%.( open terminal during first actualization- you will se message " system will hook after first reboot " or something like that)
