Polygon Name

Is it possible to modify the parameters of a POLYGON to give it a name? The main idea is to associate a polygon with a specific net.

Yes, it is possible --- in your local copy; which will introduce file format incompatibility with upstream version.

On main idea --- you probably know, this is not how PCB works now; the nets assignments (of all objects except pins and pads, i.e. arcs, lines and polygons) are done as a result of connectivity checks. I don't feel changing this would give a great advantage.

Ineiev - I do not want to do something that will probably break later on - like modifying local copies of code, that way lay dragons.

The whole idea here is for power and ground nets - giving them preference over signal nets. (So they get out of the way of signals...) Is this even worth future consideration or is the way to address it simply to develop the polygon and attach a pad that encompasses the particular net?

Well, sometimes you _have_ to modify the code locally (at least, _I_ have to): first, it is
sort of customisation, when I want a feature which is not probably useful for others
(e.g. one of my manufacturers wanted millimetric (not imperial) gerbers); then,
occasionally I misfix a bug or two which disturbs me,
but the developers seem to be more happy with it.

About the pad: good idea IMO, probably the most natural workaround;
you should just bear in mind that the pads clear the polygons, you have to
connect them manually with the polygon using lines (and if the line appears
to clear the polygon, press `j').

Actually, in practice I just connect the polygon to the net by some means
(either a line or a via) and need nothing more.

Since there is a workable solution to this issue I don't mind if it is dropped to lowest priority. I would, however, recommend that IF the developers see a forward compatible method of assigning a netname to a polygon that it be considered.
Ineiev - If you think this issue should be closed I will defer to your judgement.

Generally, I'm not against this feature; let it be open; at any rate, items on SF trackers don't disturb the developers very much.
