The primary purpose I have for grouping objects in pcb is when I import graphics for my silk screen layer (Inkscape->PostScript->pstoedit->pcb), each polygon within the imported graphics is separate and it is extremely difficult to move the graphics once placed on the board, if there is anything else on the silk layer near it, because you have to perform a multiple-select on the entire collection of imported graphics polygons, without selecting an unwanted silk elements (including text objects or element silk outlines).
