Bug Description

user@comp ~ $ pastebinit foo.txt
Bad API request, invalid api_dev_key

The api_dev_key is required by pastebin.com according to their website:

http://pastebin.com/api#1
Your Unique Developer API Key
Everybody using our API is required to use a valid Developer API Key. You automatically get a key when you become a member of Pastebin. Please login to your account, and return to this page to find your Developer API Key.

Changing the api_dev_key to an acceptable value in pastebin.com.conf will fix probably this issue:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~pastebinit-developers/pastebinit/trunk/view/head:/pastebin.d/pastebin.com.conf

All the best.

PS: I don't think that using pastebin.com with this kind of requirement (api_dev_key) should be the default of pastebinit because it will always depend on a dev to be member of pastebin.com. I will open a second bug for that issue.

That version is ancient. 1.4.1 has been out for ages. Please don't report bugs upstream that are really distro bugs.

Setting ticket to invalid.

This is not distro specific. I'm having the same issue in Arch.

pastebinit -v
pastebinit v1.4.1

pastebinit -i sample.txt
Bad API request, invalid api_dev_key

I'd like to add that editing /usr/share/pastebin.d/pastebin.com.conf and adding in my own API did fix the problem, but as the OP said, it probably not the best idea to use pastebin like this since you're eventually going to get your API key banned for spam or something worse (like people uploading illegal content with your api key).

This is still a valid issue for me...how would I go about adding my own API key?

Still an issue on my Arch.
