Hello,

Can you confirm that copying that file over to your computer and opening it like that works?

Yes, i can copy the files to my home folder and there i can open them with Photos.
I dont know if it's related to this bug, but the preview also do not work over ftp.
I know for example in Nemo or Nautilus you have the option to show the preview on other devices and you can set a limited filesize, for example 5MB or 10MB.

Another problem, but maybe important...when i open a .mp4 video file at my phone, a window appears with the text:
Cannot open this file
Cannot stream from this protocol (ftp)

I have tested it on Linux Mint 18 with Nemo and there is everything fine.

Sorry for the late reply, if you do the same FTP setup, but try and open the image with Eye of GNOME (https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/EyeOfGnome), does it work?

The reason why I'm asking so many questions is because I'm suspecting this is not a Photos issue, but an issue with the virtual filesystem for FTP.

Ask as much as you want :) I'm a noob and dont know what to do or how i can solve things :D

For a quick check I started my elementaryOS loki 0.4 liveUSB a few minutes ago and installed 'eye of gnome'.
With 'eog', i can browse through my pictures on the phone. (anonymous ftp/wlan again)
Same procedure with Photos doesn't work.

Can i check something in terminal? Debugmodus?
When i open the picture in terminal with [ pantheon-photos ./Garten.jpg ] there is no output.
[ eog ./Garten.jpg ] works as aspected.

Ok, i think the problem is, photos want to write on the Android device (folder) and that is not possible. I have tested with a text file and scratch. I am able to create a 'text.txt' but when i open it with scratch, i can not write some text. So, its only a permissions problem...but i dont know if this can be solved. Maybe a Android user permissions thing?

btw. In my comment #3 i wrote, the thumbnails are not working...thats wrong, i found out, there is a option in dconf-editor to enable thumbnails for Files on remote filesystems. And later...i see in the context menu of Files (right mouse click on a empty area in the folder) show me a option to enable it too.
