Bug Description
on Linux Mint 17.3 I can't get past the make step because I don't have the packages in the manager for gee-0.8, gtk+3.0, gudev-1.0, rest-0.7, webkitgtk-3.0.

Those packages just aren't available by default on your OS version. You'll either need to build them from source, add those packages manually from another PPA, or move to a more updated system.
