Bug Description
Sometimes resizing the mail app window cannot be done and the maximize button is not working. So the app must closed and try for for a new session. While this issue occur, the app window size overlap to the screen size.

You ran into an issue that was reported in an ealier bug report. So I am marking this bug report as a duplicate of the former bug report.
As a workaround you could try to reset the gesettings for Mail:
1) close Mail
2) $ dconf reset -f /org/pantheon/mail/
