Can't sort files in column view

When I'm visualizing a directory in column view, there's no way of altering the way files are sorted.

It is actually possible to sort in column view if there is white space underneath the files in your currently selected folder. In that case, you can right-click and choose the "sort by" menu to change sorting. But if you have too many files in the directory there will be no white space so it is impossible to do this.

This is also a problem for creating new folders. When there is no white space, the only way of creating a new folder is by using the keyboard shortcut (this happens for both the column and list views)
