If not application is associated with the file type, nothing happens on single click

Bug Description
In single click mode, if I click on a file, I expect the file to open, but if there is no application associated with that file type (in my case it was interpreting ".pub" in "id_rsa.pub" as a file type), then nothing happens.
I would expect the dialog where you pick the application to open the file with to open.
