Clicking on filenames occasionally doesn't select items in list view

Bug Description
In some occasions, clicking on a filename or directory name doesn't select that item; clicking on the file or directory's icon does. Also note that an item is highlighted by rounded corners, while the other by the whole row.

The row is fully highlighted when it is both selected and the cursor is on it. It appears with a rounded highlight if selected but the cursor is elsewhere. Currently the elementary theme does not indicate the cursor position visually if it is on a non selected row which can be confusing. This can be demonstrated in List View by expanding a row (other than a fully selected one). This selects it but does not move the cursor (as can be demonstrated by pressing the down arrow).
