Bug Description

Bug found in Pantheon Files on Elementary Freya beta 1

When trying to set a previewer for Pantheon Files using dconf-editor, the submitted previewer doesn't show up when the space bar is pressed. It just opens the default app for the file as if no previewer path is inserted.

Tried this with gloobus-preview using this previewer path: /usr/bin/gloobus-preview
This setting used to work fine with Luna

When opening gloobus preview from Slingshot, it works flawlessly.
When I try the preview a file from within the terminal using "gloobus-preview /path/to/file", it also show the preview as it should

Attached is a screenshot of the dconf-editor setting of the previewer path

In the meantime, gloobus-preview seems to work when added manually to /src/View/AbstractDirectoryView.vala before compiling (if you're willing to compile it from source, which isn't difficult.

private string? previewer = "gloobus-preview ";

Also noticing other items which aren't picked up from dconf settings: sidebar icon size and aditional toolbar-items (such as 'Up').

It is an elementary design decision not support a previewer in Files; there is little difference in time for the file to open in the default app compared to the previewer and the intention is to reduce any time difference further. Therefore this bug will be marked "Won't Fix"

Design decision aside, why have a previewer path setting but not use it?

To go into that design decision, in OS X it's very easy to go through images on disk, in the order used in the Finder, and delete for example the blurry ones. Both these things are currently impossible in Photos, it takes a while before it enables going to a next and previous photo, it has it's own sorting and you can't delete photos.
On another note there isn't even an app (first party) to preview gif's, while with gloobus-preview this works out of the box.

I don't understand this choice.

I understand that the limitations of Photos shouldn't have an impact on Files, but it would be an easy work around for now.
