Bug Description

The "rubberband" feature for selection in list view blocks DnD operations.

We should add an empty column to the left for initiating selection to avoid this blockage.

The rubberband allows to select multiple files with the mouse.

One option would be: to only appear when you ctrl-click on a file, and also to appear when you click out of a file and then drag to select many of them.

Windows deals with it by having a tiny column of empty space on the left. So when you click on a file, it's always drag and drop, but you can start rubberband selection in this empty space.

Ah that's a good workaround. Updated the bug title and description to reflect that

The branch lp:~jeremywootten/pantheon-files/all-views-vala deals with this by having drag and drop function only on the icons (in all views) and rubberbanding initiate on any white space (in all views)
