Bug Description

Finaly got seamless MTP support with Gvfs/libmtp (yay), however browsing the files in Files all the thumbnails/folder/file icons are missing.

I can browse, and access all the data like normal, but no icons.

Not sure if this is an issue with gvfs/libmtp or not. It is not on their current bug list.

ppa:langdalepl/gvfs-mtp

See screencast.

The name of the device is also missing in the pathbar, [usb:001,007] instead.

Photo thumbnails do appear after I manually view the image and exit, then go back into the photo folder.

Permissions issue?

Still no effect on icons.

This is an issue with Files. I've tested with Nautilus, Nemo, Thunar, PCmanFM and all of them show basic icons fine.

As for thumbnails - the mtp backend marks itself as remote, so you have to turn on thumbnails for all files (as opposed to local files) for them to work. The MTP devices usually generate their own picture thumbnails, and the backend will use these if they are present. Otherwise, the host has to generate them itself.

Spaces in folder names in the path-bar display as "%20" as seen in the screencast.

And the disk space meter is showing my Nexus as being full up. its not, I have 6GB free out of 16GB.

Also I cant copy files to it.. but someone with a Nexus4 said they could so that maybe a un-related issue.

I disagree that this bug is a dup. Although my last comment listed a similar trait as the one you picked it as a dup off. The bug itself is different.

I can confirm this bug. Also in folders/files list all folders have original names, but in path only digital numbers instead names.

Can confirm this bug for Linuxmint 17.2 Cinnamon with all updates installed.
Filemanager is Nemo 2.6.7.

Sorry, Philip Langdale is right in #3. mtp doesn't count as local storage. For nemo, the preview setting needs to be set to always.

There is a branch in preparation that gives the option to turn off the block on remote thumbnailing in Files:

lp:~jeremywootten/pantheon-files/fix-1458398-option-thumbnail-remote

However, just doing this only seems to enable thumbnailing on smb:// servers so I suspect that limitations of the protocol or of the gvfs backends for some protocols may be involved. With mtp:// the files are not recognised as image files so there seems to be a problem getting the filetype info.

Hi Ezra. Using Loki (Files 0.3.0.4) I get the icons OK and also the pathbar shows the device name so these parts of the bug seem to have been resolved. Please confirm whether you are still experiencing this problem.

I have changed the bug description to limit it to these two issues. Please feel free to create a new bug concerning the thumbnailing if this still a problem.
