Bug Description

I noticed this today and found it weird - the background for .png files, in the thumbnail, doesn't match the size of the image itself. It cuts off and the result is not so pleasant - attached a screenie of it. Took a look and it also happens with .svg and probably any format that has transparency.

This is ugly and should definitely be fixed for beta2.

Something similar happens to .doc and .xls icons, even though they aren't thumbnails. See attachment.

Highlight for selected image also looks strange. [See attachment]

How does the highlight looks strange? It looks fine to me.

It just looks messy and not good to me when combined with the shadow. But maybe you are right, and that is just the thumbnail border issue.

Another problem: Old thumbnail used when overwrite an image file or deleting and place a new with same name.

@Mateusz Bielski: I think it'll look OK once the border issue is fixed.

@angelique: Perhaps you should file a new bug?

I'm not currently on Ubuntu, but Win8 just adds white background under transparent image.

I'm pretty sure me and voldyman have already taken a stab at it, we just deleted the file that's used as background for such pics or something along those lines and it started looking decent. But looks like it was never merged.

i have added a branch for this bug.
the current problem is the mask that is intended to be an opaque layer of transparent is happen to be transparent too so the shadow behind rectangle is visible.
my branch will just fill the rectangle with full opaque white. its the same implementation as windows 8 did. i think its better than having to use gtk style background color (we cant see picture that intended for white background if our gtk style background is black). Or do we still need to use gtk style background?

I confirm that this bug still exits or newly introduced. Pantheon-files used old thumbnail when replace the image. Tested for .png file.
