Bug Description

(initially reported by Szymon Waliczek at https://plus.google.com/+SzymonWaliczek/posts/E6gdDxLDHYf)

Use the ubuntu touch browser app, or just a plain oxide WebView, and point it to http://ubuntu.com.
Rendering is very slow, and when scrolling up or down the user can see how the assets are being rendered tile after tile.

I’m not seeing that issue on e.g. the BQ Aquaris E4.5 (krillin), but I’m seeing it (although maybe less pronounced) on a Nexus 7 tablet (flo).

Not seeing that on other pages, I’m guessing ubuntu.com’s home page makes use of high-resolution and heavy images which somehow make oxide choke.

Same issue on BQ Aquaris E4.5 running OTA10 on e.g. http://insights.ubuntu.com/2016/04/07/ubuntu-is-everywhere/.

This doesn’t seem to affect other websites (not that badly anyway), I really wonder what’s up with graphics on pages on *ubuntu.com.

summary: - Rendering is very slow on MX4 when scrolling on ubuntu.com
+ Rendering is very slow when scrolling on ubuntu.com
Changed in oxide:
importance: Undecided → High

I tested the page https://insights.ubuntu.com/2016/04/07/ubuntu-is-everywhere/
on BQ 4.5 with OTA-10 and have the same symptons, scrolling up and down makes the pictures
show and hide with lags

Is this a recent regression rather than a device specific issue? I'm seeing this on OTA10 on krillin. I don't _remember_ it being a problem before. Was the original reporter running rc-proposed on one device and an older, stable OTA on the other, hence the difference between devices?

I’ve always been running rc-proposed on my krillin (which is my main phone). Testing both pages (http://ubuntu.com/ and http://insights.ubuntu.com/2016/04/07/ubuntu-is-everywhere/) on it, the rendering is rather fluid (scrolling is not butter smooth but very acceptable). This is not the case on arale, where the rendering of http://ubuntu.com/ is terribly slow when scrolling (it’s a bit better on the other page, but not quite good).
