I'm thinking perhaps the error message is trying to tell me that the account doesn't exist. If so, maybe this needs to be much worded.

Also, it would be nice if someone could sign up for an openid right there and then (preferably with out leaving the website, say in a pop-up).

Ok, I mistook the error for a general OSC error, my bad.

As a feature request though a direct way to sign up with an OpenID provider would be good, at the moment its all to hard to sign up for one of these when using OSC (may be an inherent problem with OpenID though).

Hi,

There is a feature for customising the error messages produced by the OpenID library. This is something which would normally be done on a site-by-site basis but we have provided commented examples at the end of the common openid language file (/catalog/includes/languages/english/openid_common.php) to get you started.

As for signing up with an OpenID provider, we definitely don't want to be seen to be recommending one provider over another so OpenID.net is the best link to provide for the time-being. I believe this is an issue which is being addressed by the wider OpenID community and I will try to keep this extension up to date with that work.

Thanks for your feedback.

Housekeeping: this is a standard UI decision which needs to be made for openid as a whole. There are UI components available (a few shown here: http://wiki.openid.net/Libraries) or a decision could be made on a per site basis to choose a preferred openid provider.

Changed in oscommerce-openid:
status: New → Invalid
