Running the Milwaukee Idaho Division route in explore mode, most of my settings are to the maximum capabilities.

You are using a very outdated version. Could you please download a more recent one from http://openrails.org/download/program/ ? I think this bug was already fixed...

I work on updating every week or so. I keep having this issue of many locomotives I run just seem to make the program crash.

Does the problem still happen with version 1.4?

Haven't tested it on that particular route since 1.4 came out.
