Bug Description

Route: Glacier-Express (Payware)
Activity: Zug 560
Path: St. Moritz-Chur

In the release 1680 and newer, it returns the following error:
If the activity is selected, the menu crashes from.
Other activities run correctly.
The error does not occur on laptop with Win7 but at different PCs with XP.
In release 1680 and following no logfile can be created.
With the old menu (release 1670 and older) the activity runs correctly.

As the route is payware, don't expect a quick fix here. :(

At what point does the menu crash? Does it actually hang or is it a crash? What, if any, dialog/s do you get when it crashes/hangs?

OpenRails X1680:

Select Route: ok.
Select Activity (train 560): Program stands still (hangs) - no info for activity appears in the right window.
Mouse arrow can be moved.
Click on new game: Entire window “Open Rails X1680 (debug)” is completely empty (white).
Hourglass remains indefinite active, can bee moved.
Click "X" (Open Rails X1680 / debug finish): application not responding - terminate immediately - report to Microsoft…

A log file is not created.
No screenshot available

The same activity for train 560RD (version for Raildriver) and all other activities working correctly.

Log file for the activity (train 560) on win7 - attachment.

Okay, thanks. Could you attach the .act file for this activity to the bug? (If you're concerned about making the payware file public, feel free to edit the bug so it is private (in the top-right corner) first. We'll look at the file in private, remove it and open the bug back up.) We might also need the consist and locomotive (engine) files used for the player in the activity.

This sounds like the same error as bug #1205839 'X1691 Hangs When Opening Surfliner2 Activity "Amtrak 778" that I reported earlier. I think it is related to reading the description strings in the activity file in menu.exe. There was a change to a constant in 'menu.cs' after X1680 that now causes a loop to fail to exit. See my last comment in that bug.

Hmm, yes, it could be. I didn't see your comments there, so I will have a look.

! Stop searching of the bug !

Meanwhile I have analyzed the task step by step. After replacing the locomotive(!) the activity is working correctly (on each PC and in both operating systems).

Thank you for the immediate effort. Your service is great!
