On the dutch ubuntu forum, 'van Hoi' reported a bug ( http://forum.ubuntu-nl.org/etalage/openteacher-overhoorprogramma-voor-linux/msg670875/#msg670875 ), description/translation:

When you want to close OpenTeacher, the buttons 'save', 'discard' and 'cancel' are in English, while they should be localized to the selected language. ( In this case dutch, so 'opslaan', 'verwerpen', 'annuleren' ).

The clean way of fixing this, is by loading translations in for Qt itself. A problem is that dutch translations aren't available with Qt itself, so we need to provide them ourself.

There are two options, doing the translation from zero ( we're talking about 400 strings ), or use one of another open source project. ( but it should be BSD for launchpad use. )

Another 'quick fix' would be to create our own buttons with the same meaning in the code, so we only would need to provide code for these buttons. But this is kind of working around of the problem, and messes up code. But, I think it's preferred above manually translating Qt as a whole, while we only need 10-20 strings.

I propose to first search for a working qt_nl.ts file, if it can't be found, we'll choose one of the other solutions.

I'm not yet adding this to the 2.0 milestone, because I'm not sure if we can still make that. Should be in 2.1 for sure however.

Isn't there even an open source Dutch translation of Qt??!
I think I just got a project startup idea :-)

But isn't it possible to use the English Qt, and only translate the needed strings to Dutch, instead of creating new buttons?

@Milan: I've not really looked for this translation, but I think it's harder than it looks like: We need the right Qt version, the right license, and an acceptable quality of the translations.

Your second idea, just translating some buttons, is indeed be better than creating custom buttons in Qt, so that's our fallback now. First need to look for a good Dutch translation, though.

I've seen an almost complete dutch translation of Qt at Virtualbox, but it was released under the MIT license. (Not launchpad (BSD) compatible.) We could've asked the translators to release it also as BSD, but that would've taken some time.

I've decided to do something different. I looked up which strings really had to be translated, and added them to the translation files we're using. (by including them in openteacher.py.)

I've not yet uploaded it into trunk, because I've done this in my personal translation branch, which contains also some other stuff. Expect it to be in trunk soon however, probably as rev. 103.
