Bug Description

The error is reported them on the SIS Mirage 3 graphics card.
This graphics card is not supported by Ubuntu.
Every time you install a new version of Ubuntu always gets 800X600 with no option to change.
To change the resolution I have to seek help when in the ubuntu forums in English, or friends, since installing the files of the SiS 671 graphics work correctly and you can change the resolution to 1280X800.
Therefore, I ask Ubuntu, that for the next version, implement the driver of SIS MIRAGE 3, so that does not have to find driver anywhere who are not officers of ubuntu which may or may not work.
I hope to correct the error with this graphics card, and 11.04 for the next version I installed without any problem with 1280X800 resolution.
Greetings.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Dear Marc, thank you very much for your reply, sorry if there is a security error, I hope you have already proceeded to put that error is a regular, and I expect from Ubuntu, fix the problem and give support to the SiS Mirage graphics card 3 in the new version 11.04, so I hope to be marked and brought to the attention of the techniques developed for the SIS MIRAGE 3 me work on the new Ubuntu 4.11 in an integrated manner normally without having to install things and choices of others, that not known if they are safe.

I hope to be given priority to the graphics card that many people and we use once and integrated into Ubuntu to work with any resolution.

The current problem with the SIS MIRAGE 3 is installed with 800X600 resolution only when this graphics card allows resolutions up to 1280X800 and 1280X800 resolution only if you install it in Ubuntu DEB packages that other users create, which may or unsafe.

Therefore, I hope that since Ubuntu is given priority to the graphics card is implemented in the system with all available resolutions.
Greetings.

Hi rbp19,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 689308

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeremy, thank you very much for your response. I've been busy and I could not perform the actions I discussed so far.

I've tested the latest versions of Ubuntu 11.04 and the latest kernel, but it is the fault.

So from my Ubuntu 10.10 I made the collection of data through the command you sent me and it appears they should be of data collected from my computer to see that the maximum resolution I have is 800x600 while in Windows I leave it up to the maximum resolution of 1280x800.

Now I'll try again later version of Ubuntu 4.11 to send the collection of data from more current system to see that your failure also appears in this release.

I hope that with all the information I am providing more data collected, to investigate the problem of SiS Mirage 3 graphics to 11.04 in the next version of Ubuntu is implemented correctly and at its maximum resolution of 1280x800 without installing software third.

I hope I discuss the progress on this issue and hope that the next version will include this graph as fully supported or at least let me choose between different resolutions larger, because 800x600 is all very wrong.

Best Regards.

Hi Brad Figg estimated and Jeremy, I'm rbp19, I send a data collection with Ubuntu 4.11 installed, but I tell you that when I installed Ubuntu on your computer 11.04 OKI NB0108, with SiS Mirage 3 graphics card has come back to me formats 800x600, and I had to search for Google until I found a solution, again I had to edit the xorg.conf and other drivers, as is explained here: http://www.taringa.net/posts/linux/10431619/_Olivetti-Olibook_-SiS-671_672-in-Ubuntu-11_04.html until I put the screen in 1280x800 format.
Therefore I command all the data again with the new facility to test and everything, and in the next version of Ubuntu 11.10, give support to the SiS Mirage 3 graphics card at 1280x800 resolution and manage to enter it in 3D mode, because this card supports 2D, 3D, OpenGL, and now as not supported in Ubuntu, because I can only use Unity with 2D.
I hope that you can implement in the new version of ubuntu, so you do not have to be looking at alternative site is not known if they are safe or not.
Thank you very much for everything, best regards.
