Bug Description

When doing a search for a movie, one often gets a list of possible hits. When choosing one of these responses, nothing happens. The Download button stays greyed out and no list of subtitles appears, although in the respoinse there may be noted for example 112 subtitles.... The only thing is a small arrow to the left of the title that changes position whn you click on the title. That's all.

When getting a single reponse from a search, then everything works fine. Subtitles are shown and they can be downloaded.

Using Windows Vista

Hi,

probably a application error ocurrs when you click on there,

can you told us if in your Program Files/SubDownloader2 there is any file with error output like "stderr.log", if yes, can u paste the content here? Please check it after trying the error again.

Best regards.
Ivan.

Hi,
The only logfile I find is one called "subdownloadere.log" and it is
empty and continues to be so after several failed attempts to load
subtitles.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi!
I'm using the Windows version and can't get any log file information. 15
Euros is quite a lot to pay for a program that doesn't work... I really
would appreciate a fix on this problem.

Thanks,

Sorry, I'm using the Windows version so I can't execute from the command

Hi Peter,

first of all the program for Windows is shareware, free for linux or Mac versions thought, and it has 30 days of probation before asking to buy a license, so we don't force anybody to pay us if they don't like the program.

Now let's try to see what it's the issue with your error. You are saying that a single search is successful but a search with lots of subtitles doesn't work?

Can you try to see what is the limit for the program to hang and not allow u to download? It may be just a overload of search requests in the backgrount.

Best Regards.

Thanks for the prompt reply!
Yes, I know it's shareware and I should have tried it for longer before
paying, but basically it IS a good program and I want to get it working.

The problem is like this:
When making a search for a movie, you often get several hits. One would
think that by clicking or doubleclicking on one of the movie titles that
a new search would take place. But nothing happens. The window says
"searching" and after a half minute disappears wioth no results. BUT,
when doing a search for a movie and just ONE answer comes up, then by
clicking you get the list of available subtitle files.

What is also strange is that most of the "extraneous" hits you get are
NOT titles that you originally searched for, but completely different
movies.

Try it: Do a search for "The Departed" and the results are as in the
attached file. Only one matches the search and one is a "maybe" But the
other two ahve nothing to do with the original searc. Click on the row
for "The Departed [2006] and nothing happens.

Peter

Hi there, i thought that u were talking about the Search by Video tab, and not the Search by Movie...

The Search by Movie depends on the API of www.opensubtitles.org , when u search for a title, we get the results from their website, so we cannot do too much about that. Anyway, that tab is just like browsing and searching in the website, no too innovative. The idea of SubDownloader is the Search by video tab, u click ur AVI files and it will find the subs for it, that simple.

Best Regards.

Not sure if this fits my problem. I have Vista 64, I installed the 15 day trial, logged into my subtitles account, chose a video folder to get subtitles for the videos in it. Search listed all the files in the right hand pane. I had no option to download. This is the path the program installed into: C:\Program Files (x86)\SubDownloader2.

Hi,

I have the same probleme. I'm on ubuntu 9.10. The previous version was working right but with this one (2.0.10), i can't select a subtitle to download hit. the button stays greyed and the checkbox is never checked. the only way to donload is to right click the subtitle and click 'download. there's no output error on the console and no error log.

in the console, i get this when i select a movie i'm looking for subtitles :

/path_to_video/video_filename
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/path_to_subdownloader/subdownloader/modules/videofile.py", line 31, in __init__
    video = metadata.parse(filepath)
File "/path_to_subdownloader/subdownloader/modules/metadata.py", line 17, in parse
    return metadata.parse(filepath)
NameError: global name 'metadata' is not defined

but nothing when i select the subtitle.
