Bug Description

I love sharing this talk: https://www.openstack.org/summit/openstack-paris-summit-2014/session-videos/presentation/land-your-first-neutron-patch

I can't find it via a search engine. Using 'openstack summit talks rosella' was not enough to locate it.

I also can't find it by accessing the summit schedule which has a link to the talk description.

I would like to be able to find this talk, to share it, when I need to do so.

Thanks,
Anita.

I'm not sure we want to bring traffic to sched.org necessarily but I do realize that sometimes the videos have become so many that they're hard to sort on https://www.openstack.org/summit/openstack-paris-summit-2014/session-videos/ since the only navigation offered is by day.

I would suggest that we expose the track, in addition or in alternative to the date, as a navigation prop to the summary video page.

The track doesn't really give me what I am looking for.

The speaker's name is something I remember or any part of the title.

Adding the track doesn't hurt, I'm just not convinced it goes far enough.

For completeness:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=openstack+summit+talks+rossella&t=canonical

I don't see a link to the video, the link to the talk description however is the first hit.

https://www.openstack.org/summit/openstack-paris-summit-2014/session-videos/ lists the names of the speakers though and openstack.org/summit is the canonical destination for all things summit related: it should be the first place where to look for. CTRL-F finds her talk.

That said, I just tried searching for "Rossella" using the search engine on www.openstack.org and I couldn't find her video session. Now, that's more disappointing and IMHO worth fixing.

The link to duckduckgo unfortunately confirms why I stopped using it even though I sympathyze with the cause: its results are suboptimal, to say the least.

In any case, adding the URLs to videos to sched.org is not necessarily a bad thing to do. I leave this up to Todd to prioritize against improving the search results and the display on our own site.

This isn't a problem of indexing the name of the speakers, exactly. We're using Google's search for the site. So if you search on openstack.org or google for "Jose Maria San Jose Juarez" you'll see the talk come up as one of the first listings. Obviously that's a specific name, but point being we are indexing that info. It's possible it's based on traffic. And indeed, if you search on OpenStack.org for "Rosella", the talk does come up (http://www.screencast.com/t/zS1LiCMBnSN), it's just the 5th of 458 hits.

My guess is, it's not the most frequent use of the persons name as she's got a profile and lots of other comments across the site. Try with some of the other Summit Presenter last names and you'll see it as the first entry.

I can't speak to Duck Duck Go exactly on "Rosella", but if you search for "OpenStack Summit Neutron", her talk comes up as the 1st or 2nd entry on every single search engine, including Duck Duck Go.

If you guys want us to dig a little deeper, we can, but I'm not 100% there is a problem here.

Thanks,
Jimmy

A quick update on this. We're adding Google's sitemap to the site to help aid in indexing. This should improve quality of search results all around for both internal search on openstack.org and general SEO.

Thank you,
Jimmy

While this is not a solution for this issue in general it maybe helps you to find and access a specific video from the latest summit. I created a list of all recorded summit videos at http://ghostcloud.net/summit_recordings_paris.html.

That list is awesome, thank you Christian. This is exactly what I was looking for!

You will now find these videos surfacing via Google search results as a 3rd or 4th result. We're still improving this process, but I believe this at least resolves your needs. The more we work on SEO and filtering, the better these resuls should get.
