In step 1, consider including the python-mysqldb package to avoid the following error in Neutron server.log and allow the neutron-server process to start properly.

2013-11-12 12:06:52.403 7735 TRACE neutron.service RuntimeError: Unable to load quantum from configuration file /etc/neutron/api-paste.ini.

Installing python-mysqldb is in http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/install-guide/install/apt/content/basics-database.html and the user should have followed that by this point in the guide. Would a note suffice?

The wording and package names seem confusing. For example, when I think about MySQL client packages, I think about libmysqlclient18 and perhaps mysql-common rather than the MySQL client for Python. Furthermore, the name of the Python MySQL client package (python-mysqldb) seems ambiguous which may cause confusion as to which packages belong on the controller and other nodes. Instead of changing the section that initiated this bug report, perhaps you can clarify the section referenced in your note. For example, listing the database packages required by the controller and other nodes separately.

    Install Guide: Clarify database node setup

    Some people were not aware that they needed to install MySQL packages
    on nodes. This patch rearranges the code so that we have separate
    sections for controller and node and thus readers should easily
    spot what needs to be done.
