Bug Description

When I try to login on the page (https://openstackid.org/accounts/user/login), it gives me the error "The username format is invalid." However, I am able to receive emails to this username. If I click on one of the email links, I am automatically logged in.

My username is "Jk6kAk7C6wff". I have attached a bmp of the error message. It clears the username/pw fields (rest assured I did not leave these blank). Thank you.

have you tried entering the email address associated with that account?

I did not try before, but I just did. I get the error message "We're sorry, your username or password does not match an existing record."

This error is displayed in the same place as the previous one. The only difference is that it does not clear my username (just password). So, I suppose that is a valid format but not associated with my account?

You should indeed use your email address there. If you don't remember the password you can restore it quickly on https://www.openstack.org/Security/lostpassword

Just to be clear, the login page states "Please use your OpenStack ID to log in". In this case, my OpenStack ID is actually the email that is associated with the account name?

Thanks for your time. I followed the lost password link and will update with my results (have not received any email yet).

Your openstackid is your email address. Check your spam folder to make sure you don't miss the email reminder.

Unfortunately, I have not received any password reset email since we last spoke. I do not see any emails in my Spam Folder nor have I received any notifications from my IT department regarding filtered emails. I do receive an email to the same address whenever a note is left on this bug and I receive updates from "<email address hidden>" regarding OpenStack list updates. So, it would appear the correct email has been associated with my username. However, as I stated earlier, no password reset email yet - I tried the link twice yesterday just to be sure.

The password I used was a very simple one-word password, so I am skeptical that this is a case of me forgetting my password.

Questions: Is there a way for you to verify that the password reset email was sent to the email address associated with my username on your end? Do we have any other options for recovering this account?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi - would you mind telling me your first / last name, as well as the email address you think you used (if different from your launchpad address)? I'll take a look at the OpenStack db and see if I can find the info requested.

If you'd prefer, you can email me directly - <email address hidden>.

Thanks,
Jimmy McArthur

Murali -

Thanks for the info. I don't currently see an OpenStack Foundation or Community Member with your first + last or email address. Is it possible you have registered under a different name/email?

If not, I'd suggest going to https://www.openstack.org/join/register/ and joining the OpenStack Foundation. From there, you should have your OpenStackID (not to be confused with Launchpad ID).

Thanks!
Jimmy

I was able to post a question here (https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/65914/issugin-command-neutron-agent-list-results-in-connection-to-neutron-failed-maximum-attempts-reached/) with my username Jk6kAk7C6wff. I thought that implies that I already have a valid OpenStackID.

Was that an incorrect assumption? Is it possible that this is the correct ID rather than my email address? Here's a screenshot of the posted question that shows me logged in with username Jk6kAk7C6wff. If I don't clear my cookies, I am able to edit the post and use the web site as normal.

Thanks.

Murali: you're trying to login in the wrong site. How did you end up on openstackid if you're interested in logging in https://ask.openstack.org/? They're separate sites, they don't interact with each other (yet).

Now, head to https://ask.openstack.org and try to login there: were you using google to login before by chance?

no longer affects: openstack-org

Hi Stefano. Thanks for explaining that to me and sorry for the confusion!

I was incorrectly assuming that the OpenStackID is the same as the OpenStack.org ID.

Stefano Maffulli (smaffulli) wrote :

Openstack.org ID and openstackid.org *are* the same. They're not connected to Ask.OpenStack.org though. Ask OpenStack is a different site that doesn't use (yet) openstackid.org

Now, can you specify again what you're trying to do so we can move this issue forward?

I was trying to login to the Openstack.org web site using my Ask.OpenStack.org credentials, which as you explained is incorrect since they are two different sites for the time being. So, not a bug. I think we can mark this issue as closed. Thanks you.
