Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

On upgrading to Gutsy RC from Feisty, X gives a blank screen on an eMac G4 1.25Ghz. There are no obvious error messages
in Xorg.0.log. Is this similar to the Mac Mini issue for the gutsy ati driver (which I also got bitten by) and is there a ConnectorTable or MacModel option in xorg.conf that will sort this out?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance.

Please also try the newest driver from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge

The (non-working) xorg.conf is attached. Removing xorg.conf completely drops you back to the text Xserver not started screen when X attempts to start.

This is the Xorg.0.log when the xorg.conf is present

Last and least - this is Xorg.0.log again when xorg.conf is removed.

The prebuilt drivers at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge are all for i386 rather than ppc?

Thanks for the log files. Yes, sorry, the prebuilt drivers are i386. I overlooked that you had a G4.

There is the ConnectorTable option you can play with, see bug 141372 for more information.

I built the driver from upstream, but with similar results - still a blank screen. I'll try the ConnectorTable options and see if something works.

I'm having the same problem on a mac mini G4.

I tried adding Options MacModel mini, and downgradig to xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.6.3-2_powerpc.deb
without any luck. (Gutsy had xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.195-1ubuntu2)

I also tried
        Option ConnectorTable "4,1,1,1,0,1,2,1"

without any luck.

Please file separate bugs for mac mini issues. The mac mini should be automatically detected (and use correct ConnectorTable) in the newest driver.

Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge for how to get xserver-xorg-video-ati-dbg_6.7.195+git20071020tv.dsc and build it yourself on powerpc.

Downgrading to xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.6.3-2_powerpc.deb _does_ get things (i.e. X) working again on the emac.

No luck with ConnectorTable options on the Gutsy module (does anyone know the correct incantations for an emac with these?), nor with
a self-built 6.7.195-2 module from upstream.

Same problem here (1.25 gHz eMac, black screen, xorg.conf tweaking (refresh/sync rates, ConnectorTable, MacModel, disabling modules) didn't fix it, and downgrading to 6.6.3-2 did.)

My PowerPC Mac Mini always got blank screens with livecds. 8.04.1 however has finally fixed that.
