Bug Description

OpenSRF master

Actually before we get Evergreen support for Ubuntu 16.04, we should start by making sure that OpenSRF will work with it too.

This is a bug for tracking progress towards getting support setup for that eventuality.

csharp already has a branch with some changes in it, will link next.

Additional note for ejabberd configuration. With the 16.04-beta1 build, I found that it ships with ejabberd 16.01 and there's a change to how passwords are stored in that version.

In /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.yml, there's an option for auth_password_format. This was set to "scram" by default, and I changed it to "plain". This step has to be done when you stop ejabberd and make the other changes, *before* you register users. When registering the ejabberd user accounts, they will use whatever option is set and either store the passwords plainly or securely. Someday, we may want to change how OpenSRF communicates, but till then, this workaround allows us to start opensrf services and connect to ejabberd.

That step should be included in the README when it's adapted for Ubuntu 16.04.

So, I had a look at this today, and Chris's additions work. I took the liberty of squashing his branch into 1 commit, signed off, and added a commit for the README changes.

I squashed because it was easier to work with the branch that way. If you don't like it, check out Chris's original branch and cherry-pick the branch listed below:

I justed tested an Ubuntu 14.04 VM with the above branch, and OpenSRF still works there.

I think it is ready to go, so I'm adding a pullrequest tag.

Pushed an update to Makefile.install to enable mod_perl2 on Ubuntu 16.04. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1551084/comments/4

Signed off on Chris' and Jason's commits and pushed to master for next OpenSRF series to support Xenial.

Thanks!
