Bug Description

OpenShot 1.4.0
Installed from OpenShot PPA
Ubuntu 11.10 (completely up to date)
FFmpeg compiled from source, version 5:201112071053-git-1

SUMMARY:

An MP3 that was originally encoded with pcm_s16le in FFmpeg plays in the preview of the OpenShot project, but when OpenShot exports a video using the ac3 audio codec, the audio from the pcm_s16le encoded MP3 fails to carry over into the newly exported video.

However, when exporting to MOV using pcm_s16le, the audio is re-encoded without a problem.

WHAT HAPPENED:

I exported a .mov with the following settings:

Video Format: mov
Video Codec: libx264
Bit Rate: 5Mb/s

Audio Codec: ac3
Sample Rate: 44100
No. of Channels: 2
Bit Rate : 128 kb/s

And the video came out fine, but there was NO AUDIO.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT:

I exported exactly the same project as .mov with these settings:

Video Format: mov
Video Codec: libx264
Bit Rate: 5Mb/s

Audio Codec: pcm_s16le
Sample Rate: 44100
No. of Channels: 2
Bit Rate : 128 kb/s

And the AUDIO WAS OK.

POSSIBLY RELEVANT:

When I recorded the original webcam + audio MKV in ffmpeg, the audio codec used was pcm_s16le.

Hi,

I have the same problem for a French user on the Ubuntu forum. And not only this one.!!!!
This issue comes from our actual framework MLT and she is only for Oneiric (and not the other version of Ubuntu.)
The solution is to upgrade at another version of MLT. Currently, it is working for me with the 0.77+git20111124 taken in the sunab repository (experimental).
My Ubuntu is not updated (I 've just do it !!! today).
Your workaround is working too fine for me.

Rectification. I have done a big error. I was focused on the problem of this user (no audio) and I've just seen that I was now no video. Sorry.
The only solution is to wait an new version of MLT unfortunately.

@Cenwen Thanks for the comment. I'm happy to go with the workaround for now and just wait for a new version of MLT. Will the new version of MLT be included in the OpenShot PPA, or shall we basically have to wait until the release of Ubuntu 12.04?

No there will be none version of MLT in our repository.
Anyway, the 1.4.1 will be out soon (I hope), the 1.5.0 is ready but on stand-by because it misses us a function for an optimal utilisation of GTK3.
And after, we will work on the big 2.0.0 which will come with our own library libopenshot so we won't use MLT after.
I don't know if you should wait or use this one that you have currently. I must said that I don't know when I see all problems that I have with Oneiric and the 0.7.x serie on the French community. If it is working for you,............
