"display Waveform" is blank after slice

I have a clip and I want to cut it based on the audio waveform, however, once I make a cut, the waveform is displayed as a flat line afterwards. There's still audio in the playback, but no matter how many times I tell it to display the wave it just keeps showing me a flat line. I tried this on two different machines and got the same error. It generates the waveform for the entire clip initially, but after I start making cuts it displays nothing in the segmented clips
