Bug Description

In GNOME, when there is a horizontal and vertically-scrollable widget, the behavior upon rolling the mouse wheel is:

* When the cursor is on the widget body or on the vertical scrollbar, the widget will scroll vertically
* When the cursor is on the horizontal scrollbar, the widget will scroll horizontally

In OOo, the widget scrolls vertically in both cases.

When I move the mouse over the horizontal scrollbar I expect the (vertical)
scrollwheel to scroll horizontal. This works in most KDE/Qt and Gnome/Gtk
applications including KSpread and Gnumeric.

cp->mmp: seems to work in all core Gnome2 applications, does not work in
Mozilla. I'm not sure if this is a usefull feature, if I need to position the
mouse over the scrollbar anyway then I have no real advantage compared to click
and move the scrollbar.

The advantage is that you don't have to search for the slider, the slider can be
very small in wide tables.

I noticed this too. I think this is an X-mouse thing. I don't think windows
programs do this. Normally, in windows, scroll wheel events don't change the
focus (they're treated more like keyboard events most of the time).

There really should be some easy way of scrolling horizontally with the scroll
wheel, so either scroll over horizontal scrollbar or shift/alt+scroll (see
Issue 21925, Issue 17162, Issue 16736 and (more generally) Issue 18421). I
think implementing either one of these would probably stem the deluge of
feature requests for this kind of thing :P

Still the same in 7.04 final. Try by opening OOo Word Processor, resizing the window so that both horizontal and vertical scroll bars appear, and then do the described steps in the original post.

Please see my comments in that one.

I can't get even regular Gnome apps to scroll horizontally with a scroll wheel when holding the cursor on the scrollbar. Perhaps this is a change in Ubuntu 7.10. Please try Ubuntu 7.10 and see if Gnome still allows horizontal scrolling for you. Perhaps something is wrong with my setup.

Nevermind I tried some more apps and they work so perhaps some other apps like Firefox are 'buggy' also...

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
