Bug Description

I saw that the /usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.1/share/template/fr/wizard/bitmap directory has bitmap files in bmp format.

I noticed that there are also gif files.

The gif file provides a better compression ratio.

I think that converting bmp files in gif will save space.

I'm currently using the en-GB, en-US and fr localizations.

This makes 69 bmp files which are using 2.4 MB.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.

Jérôme, thank you for reporting this. Could you please attach to this bug both one of the .bmp files you found, and that file converted into a format that will both preserve the image quality and lower the file size?

Jérôme, this:
- is a clearcut upstream issue.
- won't be fixed in LibreOffice Packaging.
Resolving as libreoffice (Ubuntu) => Won't Fix Wishlist. This does not mean the issue will not be cared about, but if it is cared about (even by Ubuntu/Canonical contributors), it is done upstream at LibreOffice. Thank you for your understanding.
