The way I interpret what you are saying, it sounds like you are:

1. Selecting a bullet style and then changing its parameters in the options tab and applying it to a list.
2. Applying the same bullet style to a new list and expecting it to match the formatting of the first list.

Is this a correct assessment? If not, please provide:

1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

1. Bullets selected from icon
2. Selected from Format menu: Bullets and numbering...Position
3. Changed parameters for Indent and Spacing to text
4. Created bullet list
5. Stopped bulletting with bullet icon and continued normal text
6. Re-started bulletting with bullet icon expecting customised Indent
and Spacing to text parameters to be implemented but the new bullet list
was started using the original parameters.
7. Also repeated step 3 and pressed Default button after customising
bullet parameters
8. Problem persists when using shift-F12 shortcut to start/stop bullets.

Thanks for looking into this.
Sincerely,
Nick

The issue you describe is by design. There is presently no way to set a default bullet style. The "default" button you describe resets the bullet to its default state.

Rest assured this is a known issue, and the addition of the ability to set default bullets has been targeted for OpenOffice 3.1. For the record, it looks like the next version of Ubuntu will include the current version of OpenOffice (Version 3.0).

Please reference: http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=9437

As a workaround, I would suggest you press F11, or select Format->Styles and Formatting. If you click the 5th icon on the top of the "Styles and Formatting" window, it will display lists and numbering format options. You can set up a bulleted list the way you like, highlight it, and use the button on the upper right (New Style from Selection->New Style from Selection) to save your bulleting style. You can apply at will with the "Fill Format Mode" button, or by double clicking the style to enable it.

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any further questions.

And by the way, that workaround doesn't work. When one edits the default style for outline, there is no option to set the spacing available.

Correction, workaround is fine. I made the mistake of expecting different parts of the same software (Writer and Impress) to behave consistently.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

I have no idea. I was an end user of the suite, not a developer.

R Becke, this will never be addressed in OpenOffice.org in Ubuntu as this is not supported. Despite this, if this is reproducible in LibreOffice, please give verbatim click-for-click instructions on how to reproduce.

Hi Christopher,
This bug was migrated 1:1 from OO to LibreOffice so all details can be
found @ http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=9437.
Reproducing respective the problem statement is quite simple: How can I
modify the button-list-style that gets used when pressing the button
toolbar "Bullets On/Off (Shift+F12)" for the whole document respective
document template.
Even when changing the button-list-style in one location (using the
Menu: "Format -> Bullets and Numbering ...") next time in the document
when pressing the button toolbar "Bullets On/Off (Shift+F12)" the
button-list-style is again set back to the "default".
There should be a way to link the button toolbar "Bullets On/Off
(Shift+F12)" to a "Style and Formatting (F11)" List-Style for the whole
document respective document template.
Kind Regards
Raoul
