Bug Description

I bought four styles of the Swiss 721 Type-1 font, light, light italic, medium
and medium italic

In Ubuntu Breezy I copied them to the ~/.fonts directory and when I look at
fonts in Nautilus all four are there, now named "Swiss 721", "Swiss 721,
Italic", "Swiss 721, Light" and "Swiss721, Light Italic".

fc-list
Swiss 721:style=Light Italic
Swiss 721:style=Medium Italic
Swiss 721:style=Medium
Swiss 721:style=Light

When I run Openoffice.org2 Writer in Ubuntu I see only one font "Swiss 721"
which is actually the "Swiss 721 Medium". The proper italic (Swiss721 Medium
Italic) is chosen when I select italic in Writer.
My problem is that I don't find a way to use the "Light" style.

In Windows I copied the same files to the Windows font directory and they show
up in Openoffice.org2 as "Swiss721 lt" and "Swiss721 md". The proper italic
versions are automatically chosen when I select italic.

Regards
Klaus

unsure how I can test this ...
please could you recheck with OOo 2.0.2, as found in dapper?

This seems to be an OOo bug related to name parsing. I'll check with 2.0.2 but it seems OO people have targeted this for OOo 3.0

I checked OOo 2.0.2 and it shows almost the same behavior. In the Format->Character dialog I can select "Swiss 721" as Font and then I see four typefaces, "Light", "Light Italic", "Regular" and "Medium Italic". This is a slight change as "Regular" should be "Medium".

This is what fc-list reports:
Swiss 721:style=Light Italic
Swiss 721:style=Medium Italic
Swiss 721:style=Medium
Swiss 721:style=Light

Why OOo decides that the "Medium" should be "Regular" is beyond me. In the toolbar fontselector I still see only one Swiss 721 entry and selecting that I get the "Medium" typeface which probably correlates with the "Regular" identification.

In Windows OOo there are two entries, "Swiss 721 lt" and "Swiss 721 md" which is what I would prefer. With large font families I'd rather be able to select the proper font myself than having OOo trying to force the primitve typography of 1980's word processors on me.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
