Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I have noticed the following problem for quite some time (years) in OpenOffice.org:

If you insert and EPS figure into a drawing or presentation document and then rotate the figure from inside OpenOffice, it looks fine on the screen and when you do Export to PDF, but when you print (e.g., print to PDF) the figure will not be rotated, but rather it will be unrotated, but squished to fit into the space of the rotated figure. This can be very annoying for using openoffice to write papers for publication.

Linux 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Fri Jul 11 23:41:49 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 8.04.1 with all the updates
openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2

To reproduce:

1) Create a new openoffice drawing
2) Insert an eps figure
3) Print the document, potentially using the PDF generator print spool.

David Kaplan, this is unreproducible in LibreOffice Draw via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/252139/+attachment/321189/+files/rotated_eps.odg && unoconv --listener && unoconv -f pdf rotated_eps.odg && acroread rotated_eps.pdf

notice the file preserves the rotation and the image size. Does this work for you?

I don't use libreoffice, but I imagine that using unoconv is similar to doing export to PDF, which has always "worked". As stated in the original bug report, the problem is when you print (for example print to a cups-pdf PDF virtual printer or to a physical printer).

"Export to PDF" is generally not satisfactory for publication quality figures because it rasterizes certain aspects of the EPS image.

I have just confirmed using Ubuntu 10.04 and OpenOffice 3.2.0 (Build: 9483) that this still does not work in OpenOffice.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

It also affects libreoffice, but I am not sure what else to do about it.

David Kaplan, please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect -p cups 252139

Please attach all requested information mentioned in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems#Capturing_print_job_data
