ODT report: linefeeds in text field disappear

Linefeeds in text fields (the sale_order_line.notes field for example) are not printed when I choose ODT (or SXW) as output type. For example, I have a sale order line with the following text in the notes field:

Test notes - line 1
Test notes - line 2
Test notes - line 3

When I run the default sale order report (Quotation / Order) and choose the output to be PDF the linefeeds are printed as above. However, when I choose the ouput to be ODT (or SXW), the report shows the notes field contents as follows:

Test notes - line 1 Test notes - line 2 Test notes - line 3

It appears the linefeeds in my sale_order_line.notes field are changed to spaces in the creation of the ODT report. I'm using OpenERP 5.0.1.
