toolbar buttons are too large by default

Bug #677175 reported by Tristan Hill
This bug affects 2 people
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
OpenERP sa GTK client R&D

Bug Description

Compared to other typical applications the toolbar buttons in the GTK client appear too large (imho). Firefox, OpenOffice and other gtk applications use smaller icons by default. I realize TOOLBAR_TEXT and TOOLBAR_ICONS styles are possible via config options but I propose that TOOLBAR_BOTH_HORIZ is a better default. My proposed changes can be found in lp:~stan/+junk/openobject-client_toolbar_both_horiz.

Hello Tristan Hill (credativ),

Can you send a merge proposal to the trunk client. So that the gtk team can review and merge it to the main branch if its appropriate.

Tristan Hill (credativ),

Thanks for the interesting proposal.

We are very much close to the release of 6.0, so I do not vote this change to be applied in 6.0 series.

Your branch will be considered for sure.

You may Choose specific option of those icons as 'icons+text' or 'only icons' or 'only text' from Options menu on GTK.

Hi Jay,
even if you choose 'Text only', the total width of toolbar is the same of the 'Text and Icons' one and gets over the screen width.
Only if you choose 'Icons only' you'll see toolbar within the screen totally, but this way, for example, you can't see the attachments number of a record

what's the status of this? 6.0 got release, yet there are no further comments. Will this be included in 6.1? or shall i comment on the unreviewed merge proposal to get attention of the GTK+ client team?
