Bug Description

Hello,

The version check should be enhanced:

1) When a new version has been found we should ask if we should download the new installer. The download should not block the main windows.
2) When closing OpenLP we should ask the user if he wants to install the new version (so we close OpenLP and start the setup of the new version).

In my imagination it should be as automatic as possible, but still consider the users will ("Do I want to upgrade to the new version?").

Cheers

You must consider the world where the user will not have the authority to do the install.
All our PC's are locked down for normal users and only a couple of people have the update authority.
Also do you want updates to be started at the beginning of a service.

A notification of a new major (not nightly) release is a good idea.

The auto download / install is more problematic and would be only relevant for windows. Linux would come via the package managers. MAC would do it's own thing.

Personally myself, I wouldn't want this, as I would like to do the install and then give it a good test well in advance of the next service. If the op installed it after a service, and nobody new, it could potentially cause problems if it wasn't working correctly

I agree if we did this, we would need to very careful how it was done. The last thing we want is for an upgrade to break someones installation 5 minutes before the service starts.
Remember that although it is stupid, many people just blindly click the default button in any dialogs that popup without reading them. And even if the stupid person was at fault, they would still consider it our fault for allowing them to be stupid!
