John this happens on single display. I have not tried it on a separate monitor to see. maybe I should have check before submitting a report. when alert is displayed, it is only shown at top of screen. I will check to see if same response is seen on a duel monitor system. my system is kubuntu 10.10/64 bit

Will post back results.

Hi David,
I am also testing on kubuntu 10.10 64 bit on a single display. If you display a song or verses so the whole display is showing, and then click the alert, see if it moves around. A couple times on mine, the only part of the display that was showing was just the Alert and not the rest, unless I had a song displayed. That could be a single screen problem and I won't be sure until I get it to church and check it out. If the display is in your way, you could use the option to move it over or down or resize it smaller.
I'll gladly try any steps you are doing to try to duplicate it.

Hey John, I have seen the same thing of the background not showing completely and where the alert is to be at the top, only the background the size of the alert screen remained. I did not report that because I thought it might be a aberration of the beta Nvidia driver I am using.

As I play with it, if I use the alert option, I then can not get a full single display, I only get a part of the song/background that is displayed in the alert window at the top. I have to close openlp to reset it back to full display. this does not happen every time but often enough.

This only happens on single screen mode not duel screen mode for me.

This is because you do not have a full display to use so needs to build one. As we are not displaying anything what should we display. A white screen?
In this case you have one monitor and you want the alert at the bottom so you white out your whole display with a line of text at the bottom of the display.
Alerts were designed for duel screens.

There is a small bug here, in that on a single screen system, once you use
the alert option, the normal display will not show the whole screen
background. the display is limited to the area of the alter screen. Even
trying different song and different backgrounds did not change it. Only
closing Openlp and reopening it, gets me back to normal mode.
