Bug Description

Hey guys!

Just installed OpenLP version 2.0.1 on my ubuntu studio 12 10 system.

Suddenly transparent themes are displaying as black...

Am I doing something wrong?

I downloaded and imported your theme, and it works perfectly for me. Are you sure you're using 2.0.1? Are you sure you don't have a black background? Are you sure that your songs aren't overriding your default theme?

I'm definitely using 2.0.1, all possible backgrounds are set to transparent (theme assigned to song is transparent, as well as the default theme) and when blanking to theme on the live screen, the output screen goes black. I tried going back to the older version of OpenLP (which used to crash, but I think some system updates sorted that out, but the transparent background worked) however, even with the older version, the transparent background still didn't work. I'm back on 2.0.1 and hoping we can figure this out!

I'm looking forward to getting this software running in our services soon.

Thanks again for the support!
Be blessed

Did you also check that your theme level is set to "Song Level"? http://manual.openlp.org/configure.html#themes

Darryl, since I cannot reproduce your problem (even when using your theme) this must be a problem with your computer.

What is your desktop background? My second monitor's background is just plain black, hence my transparent themes seem black, when they are not. Have you tried placing an application on your projection desktop to confirm that your theme is actually black? I can play a video using VLC behind your transparent theme, and it works quite nicely, actually.

Do you have 3D graphics enabled? I think transparency requires 3D graphics to be enabled.

Theme is definitely set to song level, tried all others, same result. I have tried running different desktop backgrounds (none of which were black) as well as VLC (the vlc concept is the main reason why I'm trying to get the transparent background to work) but they all result in a black background where it should be transparent. I'm currently investigating the 3D Graphics option.

Thanks for your patience guys!

As far as I can tell, 3D graphics is enabled. I've changed the theme to a gradient, and this works fine, but the moment I go back to transparent, it still displays as black. should I consider a re-install of ubuntu studio? could xfce be the problem?

Normally on Ubuntu you'll know if 3D is enabled because you get a lot of nice effects in Unity with drop-shadows and the like. Gradients have nothing to do with 3D.

Apparently the latest versions of XFCE can also do those 3D effects, which can be enabled by going to:

Menu --> Settings --> Window Manager Tweaks

Thank you so much Raoul! Going Menu -->Settings-->Settings manager-->Windows Tweaks & checking the "Enable display compositing" box under "Compositor" tab fixed the problem!

Looking forward to running the software next weekend!

Thank you!

We'll make a note of this in the manual.

Does anyone know where I could find a similar option in my system?
