Ok, great, I'm spec'ing out that page in more detail below here:

The interface is all mocked up and ready at the URLS:

http://demo.openlibrary.org:8080/out_copyright
http://demo.openlibrary.org:8080/fuzzy_copyright
http://demo.openlibrary.org:8080/in_copyright

While the above are mockups, their should be a canonical url to more info about a record, so:

http://demo.openlibrary.org:8080/b/IBM_in_France

should have a link to all copyright status (which is defined in the top three links). How about:

http://demo.openlibrary.org:8080/b/IBM_in_France/copyright

This link need to hook up to the records simple *most relevant* copyright determination at the bottom of the pages here:

http://demo.openlibrary.org:8080/b/IBM_in_France

Currently that says:

(C) — This book is in copyright in the US until 2056 — 1961], National Planning Association — this calculation makes many assumptions — more info ...

The more info is the link to:

http://demo.openlibrary.org:8080/b/IBM_in_France/copyright

At the top of the more info copyright page is the most relevant copyright assessment as is currently shown with the big beautiful becky-created icon, and text of the assessment.

Under the heading "Copyright Details" should show any assessment of copyright for any of the jurisdictions modules line by line in a list (with the same formatting of the *most relevant* assessment on the main book page). The copyright details should default to not showing all the details (hence the arrow which upon clicking shows more info).

Also, it would be great to have a link to be able immediately see the relevant copyright code page at the end of each jurisiction assessment. We can map the jurisdiction simple name to a default docs page:

http://demo.openlibrary.org/dev/docs/copyright/JURISDICTION

For example:

http://demo.openlibrary.org/copyright/JURISDICTION

(NOTE: This will allow us to put jurisdiction specific documentation on the assessment, show charts and put out where developers can help...cool!)

It would be great to have a quick way to add any details about copyright details for the detailed jurisdictions as well. We will have to make sure to track publication date, where published, and so forth, but this might be all more relevant as we add more jurisdictions and need to account for their various nuances.

The next heading is "License Details".

Under this any and all license should be displayed clearly and a link to the license clickable...this should cover any license and not just cc licenses. Also, there should be an allowance for multiple license...this is based upon how licensing of media is on http://commons.wikimedia.org way of showing licenses and issues.

Also, there should be a quick and easy way to add on licenses to this page with a form, or other way of simply adding them...anyone should be able to add them as well, but need to make sure there is a way to know that these records copyright status has been updated so that others can help police, etc.

There should be a clear disclaimer as well to invite anyone to assess the data on the copyright page, dispute it, edit it, etc in order for more transparency and accuracy to be reported.

Finally, ...

Since we aren't ever *really* sure about status, the pages should
probably say something like "MAY be out of copyright" and "MAY be in
copyright."

Most definitely...once the more info section described below is
implemented, I'm going to have our legal sleuths look through and check
things off, make revisions, etc....

"most relevant" means for this

* the year it enters public domain
* assumptions shown

* but also picks a specific jurisdiction based upon IP (use geoip database)
* next level could let them set their own jurisdiction for picking copyright relevance (via cookie and/or with a drop-down)

Whatever the easiest implementation is: cookie and/or database

For the first phase keep US on Openlibrary and pdregistr.ca keep CA.

/c/* is ok too for the URL of /copyright too...

so /c/us/* or /copyright/us (strongly prefer /copyright/us ) ... need to do regular expression and pick up the jurisdiction and only show that data on the more info page...

ok, must have the full /copyright in the url to pick up well in search engines...

/copyright/all/book_title

We need to review this and get testing on this...
