checkout page does not display

Bug Description
version 239 --- checkout page will not display the page. What gets displayed is the the cart header and checkout --- shipping method.
If you replace checkout_single.php with checkout_single.php from version 234 it seems to work ok.
php version 5.2.8
mysql version 5.0.85
