No Bi-Directional Sync of Contacts and Calendar

I can not edit or create contacts (Sony Xperia Z1 Android 4.3) or new calendar entries.

Seems to me like it is a one way sync only except for Notes and E-Mails - but a one way sync would be nearly useless.

Is this a bug or the intended behavior?

Just some mor information:

It seems that the App does not sync any contacts from the server at all - no matter if the checkbox "Sync Server Partners" is set or not.

Also no calendar entries get synced.

Is sync of contacts and calendar working at all? (BTW. im on an sony xperia Z1 with stock Android 4.4)

No calender or contact sync here either. I'm on CM11 kit-kat with official google apps.

Are there any logs we could consult to analyse the issue?
