Dcmitool stops working on Quanta Hardware

Bug Description

This command used to work but stopped working on Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS

root@dcmitool0:/home/ubuntu# dcmitool sdr
Cannot open dcmi driver
Error sending IDC-HI request, status=1 ccode=d7
Cannot open dcmi driver
Error sending IDC-HI request, status=1 ccode=d7
Cannot open dcmi driver
Error sending IDC-HI request, status=1 ccode=d7
Unable to open SDR for reading

Doesn't work even after doing :

rmmod dcmi
modprobe dcmi

Hi, Can you provide the following information:

1: How are you installing the dcmi driver an dcmi tools on 14.04.1?

2: Where are you getting the packages? Are you using a PPA or the standard Ubuntu archives?

3: What versions of the DCMI driver and dcmitool are you using?

4: What is the model of your Quanta server, and which OCP Spec does it match?

We install using :

apt-get update && apt-get install dcmi-dkms mei-dkms dcmitool -y

2: Where are you getting the packages? Are you using a PPA or the standard Ubuntu archives?

Another observation :

If I run dcmitool simultaneously from two different shells it fails in one of the shell with above error message.

The reason why we saw the above error message consistently was because we wrapped dcmitool in collectd exec plugin.
For some reason collectd spawns two or more instances of exec plugin causing some commands to fail. This failure rate
keeps on increasing to a point where all dcmitool issued commands fail.

Hope this provides more insight.

We turned collectd off and don't see any ... we see dcmitool stops working after a few days ...
